Interior Low-Voltage Lighting Design & Installation
LED strip and cove lighting, smart dimmers and scene control, display and accent lighting — all at 12V/24V. Residential and commercial installations across Plymouth, Elkhart, South Bend, and Northern Indiana.
The Most Visually Impactful Lighting Runs at 12 Volts
LED cove strips above kitchen cabinets, backlit display shelving in a retail space, warm accent lighting under a stair rail, smart dimming that shifts a room's mood with a single tap — these are the lighting features that define a space, and they all operate at low voltage. No high-voltage electrical work required, just clean design-forward installation that makes spaces feel intentional.
NexGen Digital Solutions specializes in low-voltage lighting for both residential and commercial interiors across Northern Indiana. We design and install 12V and 24V LED systems for architectural accents, smart scene control through Lutron and our home automation platform, and seamless integration with the other technology systems we manage.
Whether you want warm LED strips under kitchen cabinets, a fully programmable lighting scene system for a restaurant dining room, or display lighting that makes every product look premium — we design around your space and wire it to last.
Low-Voltage Interior Lighting Applications
LED Strip & Cove Lighting
12V and 24V LED tape lighting for under-cabinets, ceiling coves, above-cabinet tops, stair rails, and display shelving. High-CRI (90+) for accurate color. Static white, tunable white, and RGBW available.
Smart Lighting Controls
Lutron Caseta and RA3 smart dimmers, multi-scene programmers, and app-controlled switches. Voice assistant compatible. Pre-set scenes for morning, evening, entertaining, and away. No subscription required.
Display & Accent Lighting
Low-voltage spotlights and adjustable fixtures for artwork, display niches, wine racks, trophy cases, and jewelry showcases. High-CRI LED ensures accurate color rendering — critical for retail and gallery applications.
Stair & Step Lighting
LED stair nosing strips, step tread lights, and riser illumination — providing safe night-time navigation and a design feature that defines your staircase. Surface-mount or recessed options for any stair style.
Cabinet & Closet Lighting
Motion-activated LED puck lights and linear strips inside cabinetry, walk-in closets, pantries, and utility spaces. Auto-on when the door opens, auto-off when closed. No separate switches needed.
Smart Home Integration
New and existing lighting tied into unified smart home scenes — adjust all zones with one tap, automate by time of day or occupancy, and integrate with Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit alongside your other NexGen systems.
Safe. Flexible. Easy to Modify Later.
Low-voltage lighting systems (12V/24V DC) are safer to work with, simpler to extend and reconfigure, and ideal for the accent and architectural applications where lighting has the most visual impact.
- No Electrician Required for Most ProjectsLow-voltage wiring is NexGen's specialty — we design, run, and commission the system without coordinating line-voltage contractors in most cases.
- Easy to Extend or RelocateChanging cabinet layout? Moving a display? LED strip runs can be cut, extended, and reconnected without rewiring an electrical circuit.
- Flicker-Free Commercial QualityCommercial-grade LED drivers eliminate the flicker and color shift common in consumer strips. Consistent color temperature from first foot to last.
- Proper Dimming, No HumMatched LED drivers and dimmers eliminate the buzzing and flickering that plagues budget strip lighting installations.
- Integrates with Your Smart HomeLow-voltage LED controllers and Lutron smart dimmers connect seamlessly with our locally-controlled automation platform for unified scene control.
Interior Lighting FAQ
Low-voltage interior lighting refers to lighting systems that operate at 12V or 24V DC — rather than standard 120V household current. This includes LED strip and tape lighting, low-voltage accent and display fixtures, PoE lighting, and the control wiring for smart dimmers and scene programmers. These systems are safe, flexible, and ideal for accent, cove, and architectural applications. NexGen specializes in low-voltage lighting — we are not a licensed electrical contractor for line-voltage work.
Yes — smart dimming and scene control can often be added to existing lighting circuits using Lutron Caseta or compatible smart switches, which interface with existing line-voltage wiring at the switch location. The Lutron Caseta system integrates with Alexa, Google Home, HomeKit, and our locally-controlled home automation platform. We assess your existing wiring during a site visit to confirm compatibility.
Under-cabinet LED strip lighting for an average kitchen (10–14 linear feet) typically runs $400–$900 installed, including the transformer, commercial-grade LED strip with connectors, and dimmer or switch. Commercial under-shelf or display case lighting in retail environments ranges from $600–$2,500+ depending on linear footage and fixture selection. We provide free on-site quotes.
LED strip lighting uses a dedicated 12V or 24V transformer wired directly to LED tape — ideal for cove, under-cabinet, stair, and accent applications. PoE lighting runs IP-addressable LED fixtures over standard Cat6 Ethernet cable, delivering both power and smart controls through a PoE switch. They serve different applications: strip lighting excels at architectural accent and fill; PoE excels at per-fixture addressable ceiling lighting with full network integration. We can design systems using one or both.
Yes. We design low-voltage lighting systems to integrate with your existing platform — whether that's our locally-controlled automation system, Lutron RA3 or Caseta, Apple HomeKit, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa. Lutron smart dimming, RGBW LED controllers, and smart outdoor transformers can all be incorporated into unified scenes and schedules alongside your other NexGen systems.
No — NexGen is a low-voltage specialty contractor. We install and commission lighting systems that operate at 50V or below, plus the smart controls that interface with line-voltage circuits. For projects that require new branch circuit wiring or panel work, we coordinate with a licensed electrical contractor. Many of our lighting projects require no new line-voltage wiring at all.
