Whole-Home Automation for Northern Indiana
Every system in your home — lighting, climate, shades, locks, cameras, audio — unified under one locally-controlled platform. Local control, no subscription, no lock-in.
Every System Working Together
True whole-home automation isn't five separate apps for five different systems. It's one platform that understands context: when you arrive home, the gate opens, the garage door rises, the lights come on at your preferred level for the time of day, the thermostat adjusts, and the security system disarms — all automatically, from a single presence trigger.
NexGen builds whole-home automation systems on an open-source, locally-controlled platform that integrates more devices than any other system and requires no monthly subscription. We handle everything from system design and installation to programming your specific automations and training you to use and expand the system yourself.
We serve homeowners throughout Northern Indiana for both new construction and existing home automation projects. A free, no-obligation on-site consultation is the starting point for every whole-home project.

Why We Choose Locally-Controlled Automation

Whole-Home Automation FAQ
A whole-home automation system integrates every controllable system in your house under a single platform: lighting (all rooms), climate (single or multi-zone), motorized window shades, security cameras, door locks, alarm system, garage doors, irrigation, whole-home audio/video, and intercom. Everything is controlled from a single app, voice commands, or automated by time, presence, or sensor triggers.
Projects range widely based on home size and scope. A 2,000 sq ft home with lighting automation, smart climate, and one zone of smart shades typically runs $8,000–$15,000. A 4,000+ sq ft home with full lighting, multi-zone climate, motorized shades throughout, security integration, and whole-home audio can run $25,000–$60,000+. We provide a detailed proposal after an on-site assessment.
We install a locally-controlled, open-source platform that gives homeowners true independence. Control4 and Crestron require authorized dealers for any changes — you can't add a device, change an automation, or update the software without paying a technician. Our platform runs locally on your network, integrates 3,000+ devices, requires no monthly subscription, and you can make changes yourself anytime. We train you to use it after installation.
Yes. We automate existing homes using smart switches, wireless sensors, and wireless shade motors that require no new wiring in most rooms. Some components (multi-room audio, motorized shades on windows without existing wiring) may require minor electrical or trim work. New construction is the ideal time to install, but most existing homes can be fully automated.
Everything continues to work normally. Our automation platform runs locally on your home network — it doesn't require internet to operate. Lights, climate, locks, and automations all function exactly as configured regardless of internet connectivity. Remote access from outside your home requires internet, but your home automation doesn't.
Yes. We offer optional annual support agreements that include remote configuration assistance, device additions, automation programming, and same-day phone support. Most clients don't need ongoing support after the initial training, but it's available for peace of mind.
